Four months after completing the program's first trip to the Women's College World Series, the Baylor softball team returned to the field, going 12-2 during the fall season.
The fall began with the Lady Bears hosting their annual fall tournament, which consisted of seven teams. After splitting into two squads, Baylor's Gold and Green teams combined to finish with a 5-1 record after defeating teams from Midland CC, Temple CC, Navarro CC, McLennan CC and Oklahoma City.
The team wrapped up its fall season at the Spring Klein tournament, where the Lady Bears finished with a 4-1 record.
In game one of the tournament, Baylor faced off against Stephen F. Austin. Behind a solid pitching effort by Kirsten Shortridge, the Lady Bears totaled eight hits and defeated SFA, 3-0. The team's second game featured another good pitching performance, this time coming from Brittany Turner, which helped lead Baylor to a 3-1 victory over Texas State.
The Lady Bears third game found them matched up with San Jacinto College where Baylor escaped with a 3-2 win. A pair of pitching newcomers, transfer Jenny Isham and freshman Shaina Brock, guided Baylor to the win after the offense scattered nine hits throughout the contest. The team ran into a buzz saw in game number four, as Louisiana-Lafayette defeated the Lady Bears, 9-0.
Baylor ended the fall on a good note with an 8-1 win over Southern Mississippi in the final game of the tournament. The offense knocked out 13 hits, while Isham had one of her best performances en route to the win.
"I believe this team has the talent to be very good," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We need to do a better job of coaching situational hitting, but I think this team can come out swinging and get on a roll by the time the conference schedule starts."
The Lady Bears will begin the 2008 season at home as they host the Getterman Classic on Feb. 15-17.
