STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 18 Baylor softball team blasted three more home runs and used two big innings to pick up the sweep of Oklahoma State, defeating the Cowgirls, 9-6, in action at Cowgirl Stadium. With the win, Baylor improves to 33-17 overall, 10-5 in conference play, while Oklahoma State falls to 19-24, 5-10 in Big 12 play.
For the second straight game against the Cowgirls, the Lady Bears used the long ball to grab an early, first inning lead. After Kelly Osburn led off the game with a single, Brette Reagan delivered a two-run home run to right-center field, her 12th of the season, to give the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead.
With Chelsi Lake on first, Ashley Monceaux blasted her third home run of the series well over the right field wall to give Baylor an early four-run cushion. The blast was the seventh of the season for Monceaux and the 60th for Baylor this year.
Oklahoma State cut the lead to two with an unearned run in the third and a home run by Shianne Cruce in the fourth; however, Baylor responded with a five-run fifth inning to take a commanding seven-run lead.
With runners at second and third with two outs, Oklahoma State intentionally walked Monceaux in order to get to Kylie Conroy. Conroy responded by drilling a two-run single up the middle, scoring Osburn and Reagan to give the Lady Bears a 6-2 lead.
After Conroy and Monceaux executed a perfect double steal of home to make the score 7-2, Tessa Lynam put the finishing touches on the five-run outburst with a two-run blast down the left field line, her 11th home run of the season, to give the Lady Bears a seven-run cushion.
Oklahoma State managed to score four runs in the seventh to make the game close; however, Monceaux came into the game an recorded the final out to pick up her second save of the season.
Sarah Hausner picked up the victory for Baylor and improved to 4-0 on the season after allowing four runs in three innings of work.
Jessica Hoppock took the loss for Oklahoma State and fell to 12-18 on the season after allowing nine runs on 10 hits in five innings of work.
Baylor returns to action on Thursday, April 27, when the Lady Bears return home to face North Texas for a single game at 6:00 p.m.
