LINCOLN, Neb. - Three unearned runs scored by No. 15 Nebraska doomed the No. 18 Baylor softball team as the Huskers picked up a 7-4 victory over the Lady Bears to earn the series split in action at Bowlin Stadium. With the loss, Baylor falls to 28-17 on the season, 7-5 in Big 12 play as Nebraska improves to 32-7, 6-3 in Big 12 play with the win.
Baylor grabbed the early one-run lead as Brette Reagan lifted a two-out, solo home run over the left field fence to give the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead. The home run was Reagan's 11th of the season and the 50th for the team on the year.
Nebraska responded; however, with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. After a fielding error allowed the Huskers to tie the game, Nebraska took the lead when Trisha Tannahill delivered a RBI double with two outs to make the score 2-1.
After a scoreless second and third, Baylor reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. Chelsi Lake led off the inning with a solo home run over the left-center field wall to tie the game at 2-2. The solo blast was the 16th of the season for the junior as she established a new Baylor, single season home run mark, breaking the mark of 15 set by Lake last season.
A key, two-out hit gave Baylor the lead as Jordan Daniels delivered a sharp single to left field, scoring Ashley Monceaux from third as the Lady Bears took a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
For the second time in the game; however, Nebraska re-took the lead as a two-run single by Crystal Carwile allowed the Huskers to grab the 4-3 lead.
Baylor was inches away from tying the game in the sixth as Tessa Lynam drilled a line-drive towards the right field fence. The ball glanced off the top of the wall and bounced back into the field of play; however, as Nebraska's Molly Hill worked around the single to keep the Husker lead at one heading into the bottom of the inning.
Nebraska put the game away with a three-run sixth; however, as the Huskers took a 7-3 lead heading into the final inning.
Kelly Osburn's 11th home run of the season in the top of the seventh made it 7-4; however, Hill managed to record the final two outs to preserve the series split.
Molly Hill picked up the win for Nebraska and improved to 16-1 on the season after allowing four runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work. Lisa Ferguson took the loss and fell to 15-11 on the season after allowing three runs in 1.1 innings of work.
Baylor will return to action on Wednesday, April 19, as the Lady Bears travel to College Station, Texas, to face Texas A&M in a Big 12 Conference contest at 6:30 p.m.
