WACO, Texas - The Georgia Tech softball team took advantage of a number of Baylor mistakes as the Yellow Jackets cruised to an 8-0 victory over the No. 19 Lady Bears in action at Getterman Stadium on Tuesday. With the loss, Baylor drops its sixth consecutive contest and falls to 18-12 on the season as Georgia Tech improves to 26-6 on the year.
Georgia Tech got on the board with three unearned runs in the second as Kacey Ivey delivered the key hit in the inning with a two-run, two-out RBI single as the Yellow Jackets went out in front 3-0.
Savannah Brown delivered a three-run home run well over the left field wall in the fifth as Georgia Tech added single runs in the sixth and the seventh to claim an 8-0 victory over the Lady Bears.
The bright spots were few and far between for Baylor as Georgia Tech pitcher Sarah Wood picked up the victory to improve to 9-1 on the season after allowing only two hits in five innings of work.
Lisa Ferguson picked up the loss to fall to 9-6 on the year after allowing three unearned runs in three innings of work.
Baylor left five runners on in the contest as the Lady Bears managed only four hits and dropped its sixth straight game for the first time since the 2003 season.
Luckily for the Lady Bears, Baylor will have the opportunity to put the loss behind them quickly as BU opens Big 12 Conference play on Wednesday, March 22, at 6:30 p.m. against No. 15 and defending Big 12 Conference champion Texas A&M.
For tickets to the Big 12 Conference opener, which was sold out last season, fans can call the Baylor ticket office at 1-800-BAYLOR-U or 254-710-1000.
