WACO, Texas --- The No. 18 Baylor softball team pounded out 22 hits on the night as the Lady Bears swept a pair of games from Texas State, defeating the Bobcats, 9-1, in six innings in game one before rallying for a 4-3 victory in game two. With the wins, Baylor improves to 11-5 on the season as Texas State falls to 10-11 on the year.
Baylor coasted to a run-rule victory in game one as the Lady Bears capitalized on five Texas State errors in the contest to claim a 9-1 win. The Lady Bears took advantage of three Bobcat errors in the bottom of the third to score six runs and grab a 6-0 lead.
Freshman Brette Reagan put the Lady Bears on the board first as her single to left field scored Miriam Romero to give Baylor the early 1-0 lead. Chelsi Lake followed with another RBI single as the Texas State left-fielder misplayed the ball in left field, allowing Kelly Osburn and Harmony Schwethelm to score as Baylor grabbed a 3-0 advantage.
Kylie Conroy added a RBI single in the frame and eventually came around to score on a fielding error as Baylor took a commanding six-run lead into the fourth.
Texas State managed an unearned run in the fourth; however, Baylor responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-1 lead.
On a double steal by Osburn and Schwethelm, the Texas State catcher threw the ball into left field, allowing Osburn to score from third to give Baylor a 7-1 lead. Reagan followed with her second RBI single of the contest, scoring Schwethelm, as the Lady Bears took a seven-run lead into the fifth inning.
Schwethelm's fifth-inning single marked the 200th hit of her career as she became only the fifth player in school history to reach the 200-hit plateau.
After Texas State was unable to score in the fifth or the sixth, Baylor ended the game when Reagan scored on a throwing error by Bobcats pitcher Kati Ann Trahan to give the Lady Bears a 9-1 win.
Trahan took the loss for Texas State, allowing nine runs, four earned and 14 hits in six innings of work as she fell to 5-6 on the season.

Conroy and Reagan each collected three hits in the victory as Reagan added two RBI to lead the Lady Bears in the victory.
Things would not come as easy for Baylor in game two as Texas State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after single runs in the first, second and third innings.
The Baylor bats came alive in the fourth; however, as the Lady Bears cut the lead to two when Reagan singled to score Schwethelm from third to make the score 3-1.
With two outs and the Lady Bears down two runs in the fifth, Schwethelm hit a key two-run single to left field, scoring Romero and Lauren Parker as Baylor managed to tie the game.
Lake then gave the Lady Bears the lead for good as she lifted an 0-1 pitch from Sarah Lancour over the right field wall for her fourth home run of the season to make the score 4-3.
Tessa Lynam, who came into the game in the fifth, shut the Bobcats down in order in the seventh as she picked up the victory to move to 2-0 on the season after allowing only one hit while striking out four in three scoreless innings of relief.
Lancour took the loss for Texas State after allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
After collecting her first career hit in game one, freshman Alex Colyer led the way for Baylor in game two, going 2-for-2 as Schwethelm added a run and two RBI in the victory.
