COLLEGE STATION, Texas --- The No. 7 Baylor softball team fell behind 4-0 in the first inning and was unable to rally as the Lady Bears fell to No. 4 Texas A&M 7-1 in the regular season finale at the Aggie Softball Complex. With the loss, Baylor finishes the regular season with a record of 44-10, the best regular season record in school history, 11-7 in the Big 12 Conference as Texas A&M improves to 43-6, 14-4 in the conference.
Texas A&M jumped on the Lady Bears in the first inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead. Megan Gibson put the Aggies on the board first when she hit a hard line drive up the middle that deflected off of Baylor starter Lisa Ferguson, allowing Jami Lobpries to score to give Texas A&M the 1-0 lead. Rocky Spencer then drew a walk with the bases loaded and two outs as the Aggies extended the lead to two. The Aggies drew two more bases loaded walks in the inning as Texas A&M took a 4-0 lead heading into the second.
Baylor had a chance to draw even in the third inning, loading the bases with only one out; however, Texas A&M starter Amanda Scarborough struck out the next two batters as the Lady Bears trailed by four heading into the bottom of the inning.
Texas A&M added an unearned run in the third to extend the lead to five as Baylor managed to cut the lead back to four with back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth. Tessa Lynam led off the inning with a double off the top of the wall as Kim Wilmoth knocked her in with a double to left-center field to make the score 5-1.
The Aggies added two more runs in the fifth, however, as Texas A&M held the Lady Bears scoreless the rest of the way as they swept the season series from the Lady Bears with the win.
Ferguson took the loss for Baylor after allowing four runs in 0.2 innings of work to fall to 17-4 on the season.
Scarborough improved to 26-1 on the season with the complete game victory after allowing one run on eight hits.
Harmony Schwethelm had three hits for the Lady Bears in the loss.
Baylor will return to action as the fourth seed in the Big 12 Conference Tournament when the Lady Bears will face either Nebraska or Missouri on Thursday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. in Oklahoma City, Okla.
