SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Baylor men's golf team shot a 24-over par 304 to begin the NCAA Central Regional and are currently tied for 22nd as the first round was suspended due to darkness Thursday at the 7,011-yard, par-70 Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame.
Redshirt freshman Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) had the best start for the Bears, firing a 73, including birdies on 12, 17 and six. Baylor began its round from the 10th tee.
Sophomore Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) shot a 76 and carded a birdie on 16, while sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) posted a 77 with birdies on 10 and 17.
Sophomore Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) shot a 78 and had birdies on 10, 13 and 16, and sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) shot his worst round of the season with an 82, including bogeys or worse on each of the first five holes.
Missouri shot the lowest completed round of the day with a 5-over par 285, while 12 teams remain on the course. First-round action will resume Friday at 6:45 a.m., followed by the second round. The tournament concludes with the third and final round Saturday.
The top 10 teams and two individuals on teams not in the top 10 of each of the three 27-team regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships June 1-4 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore, Md.
