LAREDO, Texas -
The Baylor men's golf team scorched the course for a 282, the lowest team round of the entire tournament to win Border Olympics title by 22 strokes Saturday at the 7,241-yard, par-72 Laredo Country Club. The victory is the first team title for the Bears this season, but their fifth championship at the Border Olympics in the last eight years.
Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) carded a final-round 5-under 67 for a three-day total of 7-under 209 to claim his third individual championship of the season. Sophomore teammate Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) finished with a 71 for a total of 210, just one stroke off the lead.
Sophomore Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) fired a 74 to finish tied for 10th at 218, while redshirt freshman Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) shot a 72 to also tie for 10th at 218. Sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) shot a 72 and tied for 26th at 222.
Competing individually, redshirt freshman Matt Briggs (Dallas, Texas) wrapped up with a 72 tied for 15th at 220, while fellow redshirt Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) shot a 74 and tied for 21st at 221.
Baylor finished with an 852, 22 strokes ahead of Lamar (874). Texas-Arlington finished third at 875, Michigan State took fourth with an 879 and Houston rounded out the top five with an 882.
The Bears return to action at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate April 4-5 at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas.
