Recap?|? Box Score
LSU head coach Yvette Girouard
"What a battle between two teams that refused to bend for a long time. My hats off to Baylor. They did a great job."
"(Schmidt) made every big pitch she needed to. We have had some kids who have been struggling offensively and we kept telling them soon or later it'll be your turn. We had some people step up and finally had some breaks go our way."
"We had an idea how Glenn Moore prepares his team, and the kind of ball he plays. It's a typical Glenn Moore team. It wasn't that we weren't prepared, they just took it to us. Everything that they touched was dynamite at the very beginning."
"We are a very balanced team and if a kid goes down on us in their play we always have other kids that can step up. Leslie Klein is a very, very good softball player. She did it with her bat and she did it with her glove."
LSU pitcher Kristin Schmidt
"Our team is very good at answering back anytime we are scored on, and I always have a lot of confidence in my offense that they are going to come through. I have a lot of faith in my team, and it's just a matter of time before we score."
LSU outfielder Camille Harris
"It was a very exciting game. Bottom line I think that from here on out that is how the competition is going to be. We need to prepare oursleves for games like that in the future."
LSU outfielder Lauren Castle
"Coach told me if they hit a gound ball go home. We need to break it up, so that's what I did."
Baylor head coach Glenn Moore
"I think our program went to a whole new level today. We just faced the number two team in the country, and I have tons of respect for what they are capable of doing. But I can't say enough about what our girls did today. They came out with a great approach to the game and no fear in their eyes. We had the opportunities and their backs against the wall - we just couldn't drive in the last nail."
On missed opportunity
"We didn't execute when we had runners on first and second. We were set to win the game, but we couldn't get it done. It's about execution. We're ranked 19th in the nation and they are number two, and we came out on a equal playing field. I think these kids deserve a lot of credit for the heart they had."
On coming back today after an emotional game
"It's very difficult. I have seen time and time again teams fall flat on their face after an emotional loss like that. We have to recognize what's at stake here. We have the opportunity to win three games and go to the World Series. We can play with anybody. I think we were confident going into the game that we could play with them. We had to do what we do, and we focused on those things, not what LSU was doing. That was key."
Baylor pitcher Lisa Ferguson
"I think we have enough heart and desire to bounce back."
Baylor first baseman April Luce
"I think we will be fine. I think it lit a fire for us. We are going to let it go and come back tonight and win. We want to play them again. We are ready."
On home run
"I asked my teammates what (Schmidt's pitches) looked like, and they kept telling me it's hittable. I definitely thought that was hittable."
