Box Score

WACO, Texas - No. 20 Baylor ended a three-game losing skid with a 2-1 victory over No. 24 Texas State in action at Getterman Stadium. With the win, Baylor moves to 38-12 on the year as Texas State drops to 36-16 on the season.

The Lady Bears were forced to rally against the Bobcats, as Texas State took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Katie Ann Trahan doubled to left-center field off of Baylor starter Lisa Ferguson to score Kristen Zalenski as the Bobcats grabbed the lead.

Baylor would rally in the bottom of the fourth, however, with two runs to take a lead it would never relinquish. Following back-to-back singles by Kelly Osburn and Chelsi Lake, Melissa Maler took a 0-1 pitch from Trahan and hit a drive off the left field wall to score Osburn and Amber Daniel, who pinch-ran for Lake, as Baylor grabbed a 2-1 lead.

Cristin Vitek (23-6), who came into the game in relief of Ferguson, shut down the Bobcats the rest of the way to claim her 23rd victory of the season. The win moved her ahead of Stacey Allison, who won 22 games in 1997, into third in school history for most victories in a season.

In the victory, Vitek worked 3.1 innings of relief, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out five.

Harmony Schwethelm and Lake added two hits apiece for the Lady Bears, as Schwethelm extended her hitting streak to seven, tying her career high. Schwethelm added two steals during the game, moving her season total to 25, and tied Michelle Sorrels (1996) for second place for most stolen bases in a season.

Trahan (12-8) took the loss for Texas State, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings of work.

Zaleski went perfect on the night for the Bobcats, going four for four with four singles.

Baylor will now return to Big 12 Conference action when the Lady Bears travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the Texas Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21.
