WACO, Texas-The Baylor softball team opens the fall season this weekend as the Lady Bears host the Baylor Fall Tournament at Getterman Stadium. The Lady Bears open play at the tournament on Friday, October 8, when they take on Temple (Texas) CC at 3:00 p.m.

Baylor will play in seven contests over the weekend as the tournament also features teams from McLennan (Texas) CC and Seminole (Texas) CC.

"The team is really excited to take the field for the first time after working hard during the fall conditioning and practice period," head coach Glenn Moore said. "The tournament will give us the opportunity to try several different line-ups as well as see where we stand as we head into the last couple of weeks of fall practice."

Baylor returns six seniors and seven starters, including first-team all-conference selections Carrie Leerberg and Harmony Schwethelm, from last year's squad that advanced to the NCAA Softball Championships for the first time in school history and established a new school record with 48 wins in a season.

In addition, Baylor returns every pitcher from last year's team, including second-team all-conference selection Cristin Vitek as well as Lisa Ferguson. Last season, Vitek established a new NCAA single-game record with 28 strikeouts against North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Softball Championships.

Following the Baylor tournament, the Lady Bears will conclude the fall practice season the weekend of October 15, when they head to Houston, Texas, for the Spring Klein Tournament.
