WACO, Texas - Second-year Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore called the weekend "very successful" as the Lady Bears won all six games here Saturday and Sunday in the 2001 Baylor Fall Classic.

Sunday, the Bears defeated Seminole State Junior College, Blinn County College and Navarro Junior College to claim the overall team title in the round-robin tournament that featured both senior and junior colleges. This is the second tournament of the fall practice season for the Bears, Baylor will play at Texas A&M next Saturday to conclude the fall season.

"We're where we need to be at this point," Moore said. "We know what we need to work on. We're very happy with our offense, especially with our speed. We feel like we are a very versatile team with several people that can play more than one position. Right now, we just need to fine tune our base running."

Baylor scored 28 runs in its six wins over the weekend while allowing just one. First, the Bears blanked Galveston College 9-0. Kristen Lancaster went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in the victory. Kelly Levesque and Nan Wilkins also supplied a run-scoring double and a run-scoring triple, respectively. Katie Decker picked up the victory for Baylor.

Baylor also posted a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma Christian Saturday, followed by a 5-0 shutout of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Joni Miller got the win against Oklahoma Christian, helped by a two-run home run off the bat of Nan Wilkins. Against MHB, Holly Fields blasted a two-run home run and Kim Wilmoth belted two doubles as Cristin Vitek got the win.

Vitek picked up two more victories Sunday, blanking Seminole State 6-0 and Navarro College 2-0. April Luce led the Lady Bears against Seminole State with a 2-for-3 game at the plate. Vitek allowed just two hits and struck out five against Navarro while helping her own cause with an RBI triple. Sandwiched between those two wins was a 3-0 victory over Blinn College in which Miller struck out nine batters. Levesque went 3-for-3 against Blinn, while Sarah Caudle and Fields each had a pair of hits.

"Our youth is starting to wear off," said Moore, who will welcome 10 newcomers to his squad for the 2002 season. "The kids are starting to get a lot more confident, and that's good to see."

Baylor's 2002 season will begin Feb. 1-3 as the Lady Bears host Northwester State, Southern and Texas-Arlington for the Getterman Classic. The Bears are coming off a 38-22 season in which they tied the school record for wins in a season.
