Bears face final of three non-con road matches versus the SEC
BATON ROUGE, La. – 22nd-ranked Baylor soccer closes out its stretch of non-conference SEC road tests Thursday against LSU at LSU Soccer Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT. The match will stream live on SEC Network+.
The Bears have passed the halfway point of non-conference play with a 4-1-0 record, picking up wins over then-No. 10 Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas and Pepperdine, with the lone setback coming against now-No. 17 Texas State. Baylor has gone 3-0 against the SEC this season, extending its unbeaten streak against the league to seven straight matches dating to 2024.
BU and LSU will meet for just the second time in program history. The last matchup came in March 2021, during a season split by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tigers scored in the 27th minute and held on the rest of the way despite a 10-10 deadlock in shots.
LSU's season sits at 1-4-1 after opening on the road at then-No. 18 Wake Forest, where the Tigers dropped a 2-0 decision, before returning home for their lone win of the season, a 5-0 victory over Northwestern State. Thursday's match will be LSU's fourth against the Big 12 this season, a stretch in which the Tigers have gone 0-2-1 with losses to UCF at home and Arizona State in Tempe and a draw against Arizona in Tucson.
Ava Galligan paces LSU with three goals and six points through six games, while Ryann Denecour and Sariyah Bailey are tied with two assists each. Audur Scheving has made five starts and appeared in all six matches in goal, posting a 1.33 GAA with nine saves, while Marie Pues has made one start and appeared in two matches, posting a 2.66 GAA with one save.
Baylor is led by Lauren Omholt, whose three goals and eight points top the roster after her header served as the game-winner Sunday night against Pepperdine. Theresa McCullough paces the team with four assists on the season off the bench.
In goal, Azul Alvarez has played all 450 minutes this season, making the net her bailiwick with a 1.44 GAA and 13 saves.
