Runyon and Miller pick up first assists of their Baylor careers as Bears improve to 5-1-0
BATON ROUGE, La. – The 22nd-ranked Baylor soccer team (5-1) earned a clean sheet victory on the road at LSU (1-5-1), 2-0, on Thursday night at the LSU Soccer Stadium.
BU improves to a 4-0 record over Southeastern Conference teams this season and remains unbeaten in eight consecutive matches against the league dating back to 2024.
In their first-ever victory over LSU in just the second all-time match, the Bears made the most of a limited chance, converting both of their shots on goal in net.
LSU came out with the early pressure, out-shooting Baylor 6-2 in the opening half, but Azul Alvarez turned away both shots she faced to keep the game scoreless. While the Tigers had 11 shots and three shots on goal on the night, Alvarez earned three saves to keep LSU off the board and post the first shutout of the season.
Grace White struck first for the green and gold in the 35th minute. The freshman posted her third goal of the season, second in back-to-back matches, off assists from Sydney Miller and Kate Runyon, each earning her first assist in a green and gold jersey.
Baylor kept the Tigers scoreless and headed into the break up 1-0.
After the half, Theresa McCullough launched her second goal of the season in the 79th minute. McCullough connected from Runyon and Olivia Hess to extend the lead for the Bears.
BU, who won the corner kick battle 4-2, held off the Tigers the remainder of the night with a pair of additional offensive attacks before the final whistle was blown.
The Bears are back at Betty Lou Mays Field next Thursday to host Marquette. The game, dubbed the annual white out, will begin at 7 p.m. CT, streaming live on ESPN+, with free admission for fans on the Banks of the Brazos.
