Redshirt freshman from Houston has four years of eligibility remaining
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's golf head coach Jay Goble announced the signing of Oklahoma State transfer Sophia Ellestad on Monday, boosting a roster that returns three of the five players from a squad that made its sixth-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
A two-time TAPPS 6A individual state champion at St. Agnes Academy in Houston, Ellestad will have four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting at OSU during her freshman season in 2025-26.
"We are very excited to add Sophia to our roster for the upcoming season," Goble said. "Sophia has a very high ceiling, and I believe her best golf is still in front of her. I believe that given the opportunity to compete consistently in the lineup, we will see her game only get better and better over her time at Baylor."
Ranked as high as 85th on the Rolex AJGA list, Ellestad picked up her first AJGA win in August 2024 at the Mizuno-Greyson Sigg Junior Championship, when she birdied four of the last nine holes during the final round.
"I really enjoyed watching Sophia early on in the recruiting process," Goble said, "because it's very obvious that she is super talented."
In December 2025, she tied for fifth at the Women's California State Open, shooting 3-under-par 213. The 2025 graduate of St. Agnes Academy also placed fourth at the AJGA Lake Charles Junior Championship in March 2024, one spot behind OSU sophomore Summer Lee.
Coming off a 25th-place finish at the NCAA Championship, Baylor returns junior transfers Charlotte Brook and Yurang Li, sophomore Malena Castro and freshman Paloma Ibarra Ambia.
Ellestad joins Abigal May from Scotland and Sofie Nooij from The Netherlands, who signed last November along with Ibarra Ambia.
