Five of Seven Bears Finish Inside the Top 10
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Five of the seven Bears in the field finished inside the top 10 as Baylor Women's Golf earned a second-place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate.
"It was a really solid week for the Bears," head coach Jay Goble said. "I'm proud of the way we fought and competed all week."
Senior Bridget Boczar led the way for the Bears in the five-player lineup, bookending the week with rounds of 68 on her way to a tie for fifth. Playing individually, Paloma Ibarra also finished tied for fifth after posting three straight rounds of par or better, including a final-round 70.
"Bridget and Paloma both had solid weeks, and I feel like they're trending in a great direction going into our final event of the fall," Goble said.
The Bears added three more top 10 finishes, with senior Yurang Li, sophomore Sophia Ellestad and freshman Sofie Nooij each tying for 10th at 1-under par. Li and Ellestad gave Baylor three players from the five-player lineup inside the top 10, while Nooij matched them while competing as an individual. All three finished the week in red figures.
Charlotte Brook and Malena Castro rounded out the team lineup. Brook opened the week with a six-birdie round of 68 and finished tied for 24th. Castro carded eight birdies over the course of the week and finished in 30th place, using a final-round 72 to climb one spot on the leaderboard.
As a team, Baylor was one of only five teams to finish the week under par. The Bears finished behind only Tennessee and were six shots clear of third-place High Point.
"This was a solid week for us. We'll get back to Waco, have about 10 days to put in some good work and get ready for our final event of the fall in Granbury," Goble said.
The Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate marked the third of four events on Baylor's fall schedule. Full results from the tournament can be found on Clippd.
