BU turns its attention to the Big 12 Tournament next week
LUBBOCK, Texas – Baylor softball closed out the regular season with an 8-0 loss to No. 2 Texas Tech in five innings Saturday afternoon at Tracy Sellers Field.
The Bears were unable to generate offense against one of the top pitchers in the nation in NiJaree Canaday, while the Red Raiders used some big swings to take the early lead and never looked back.
Baylor now turns its attention to the postseason, awaiting its seeding for the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City.
RUNDOWN
Tech set the tone early in the first inning, as Jasmyn Burns launched her fourth homerun in the last four games, a grand slam, to give the Red Raiders a 4-0 lead.
TTU added to their advantage in the third, as Lauren Allred connected on a two-run home run to extend the lead to 6-0.
Baylor was held hitless throughout the contest by Texas Tech ace NiJaree Canady, who struck out nine and faced the minimum over five innings.
The Red Raiders put the game away in the fifth inning, stringing together three hits, including back-to-back doubles, to plate two more runs and secure the 8-0 run-rule victory.
