FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 37 Baylor (10-6) fell to No. 23 Texas Christian University (15-2) 4-1 on Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The Bears secured their lone point with a singles victory at the No. 2 from Zuzanna Kubacha. Despite another win at No. 2 doubles, BU lost the doubles point as the Horned Frogs captured victories on the other two courts.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor dropped the doubles point to TCU, who secured wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Victo Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai defeated Kubacha and Gabrielle Villegas 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Cayetana Gay and Tomi Main clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over Kennedy Gibbs and Luna Ivkovic at No. 3 doubles.
The Bears' Na Dong and Alian Zack earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, marking their sixth win of the season in eight total matches, but it wasn't enough to capture the doubles point.
The match was moved indoors halfway through singles due to rain.
The Horned Frogs extended their lead at No. 3 singles as Tsai defeated Mu-Jie Tzeng 6-0, 6-2. The Bears responded with a win at No. 2 singles, where Kubacha, ranked No. 117, won 6-1, 6-0 against Gomez O'Hayon, marking her sixth win in her last seven matches.
TCU then regained momentum at No. 5 singles, with Jennifer Jackson winning 6-3, 6-4 over Ivkovic, and sealed the match at No. 6 singles, as Gay delivered a 6-0, 7-6(4) victory against Villegas.
The final dual score was 4-1 in favor of TCU, with the remaining matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles left unfinished.
