PING ASU DAY 2 RESULTS
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Recording four sub-par scores for the second-straight day, Baylor women's golf shot 4-under 284 in Tuesday's second round and remained in second place at the PING ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club.
Second-ranked USC shot 7-under 281 and stretched its lead out to 11 strokes at 24-under 552, followed by the 26th-ranked Bears at 13-under 563. The No. 23 Arizona State host team (10-under, 566) and Cal State-Fullerton (5-under, 571) are the only other teams that are under par through 36 holes.
"I feel the golf course played a little harder today," said Baylor head coach Jay Goble. "We had a good day for the conditions, and we will show up tomorrow poised and ready to go."
For the second-consecutive day, the Bears were led by sophomore Malena Castro, who remained bogey-free through the first 32 holes and shot 2-under 70. She moved up four spots to a tie for fourth at 5-under 139.
"Malena has only made one bogey for the event and continues to play solid golf," Goble said of Castro, Baylor's highest-ranked player at No. 62 in the country. "She will be ready for another great day tomorrow."
Junior transfer Yurang Li got to 3-under for the day and 5-under for the tournament before bogeys on two of her last three holes dropped her to 1-under 71 and a tie for eighth at 3-under 141. Senior Bridget Boczar and junior Charlotte Brook, playing as an individual, had matching rounds of 1-under 71 and are tied for 33rd at 2-over 146.
Senior Silje Ohma was the Bears' fourth scoring golfer on the day, shooting an up-and-down even-par 72 with four birdies and four bogeys and is tied for 13th at 2-under 142. Freshman Amelia Wan is tied for 27th at 3-over 145 after following up an opening-round 70 with a 3-over 75.
Baylor will be paired with USC, ASU and Cal State-Fullerton for a 10 a.m. CT shotgun start in Wednesday's third and final round.
