Elite tournament field includes five top-20 teams at Golf Club of Houston
HUMBLE, Texas – Staying in Texas for just the second time this season, the 20th-ranked Baylor women's golf team will compete in the Chevron Collegiate, which starts Monday at the Golf Club of Houston.
The 17-team tournament includes five top-20 teams, five others in the top 50 and the rest of the field all ranked in the top 100 by Scoreboard.
"Really happy to be part of such a great tournament down at the Golf Club of Houston," said Baylor coach Jay Goble. "It's a really cool golf course that played host to the PGA Tour Houston Open."
Baylor is coming off its seventh-consecutive top-five finish, placing second behind top-ranked Stanford in the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate in Tucson. Senior Silje Ohma tied for fifth in the 80-player field at 3-under 213, her second top-five individual finish of the year and ninth of her career.
Sophomore Malena Castro had her second-straight top-15 finish, tying for 11th at 3-over 219, while senior Bridget Boczar tied for 21st 6-over 222.
Ohma and Boczar are at the top of this week's lineup, joined by junior transfer Yurang Li, Castro and freshman Amelia Wan.
"I'm excited for this lineup and feel that our team is trending in the right direction," Goble said.
Joining Baylor and the 32nd-ranked Houston team are No. 3 Oregon, sixth-ranked Arkansas, No. 11 Mississippi State and No. 16 North Carolina. Rounding out the field are Iowa State, SMU, Indiana, TCU, Illinois, Texas State, North Texas, Marylan d, UL-Monroe, UNC-Wilmington and UTSA.
The Bears are paired with Iowa State and Maryland for Monday's two rounds, with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Live scoring is available at Chevron Collegiate.
