WACO, Texas -- A strong defensive performance carried TCU to a 17-6 win over Baylor football, on Saturday night at McLane Stadium.
Baylor (4-2, 2-1 Big 12 Conference) fell behind in the first quarter and couldn't muster the offensive fireworks to rally past TCU (3-3, 1-2 Big 12), who held the Bears to 310 yards of total offense. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Baylor, who had opened conference play with wins over Colorado and Arizona State.
The Bears rallied to cut the lead to 7-6 at halftime but a 10-point third quarter, fueled by a 67-yard completion that drove a 75-yard TD drive, and a 14-play, 73-yard drive that ended in a field goal, pushed the Frogs up by two scores.
BU couldn't narrow the lead as its final seven drives - outside of an end of first half scenario - ended in three punts, a fumble, interception and two turnovers on downs.
Baylor's strong defensive performance throughout the 2026 season continued, with the Bears holding their sixth straight opponent to 20 points or less to open the year. BU held TCU to 327 yards, with its run defense forcing TCU into just 33 yards rushing. The Frogs threw for 294 yards on 21-of-36 passing.
BU got another strong game from Gavin Freeman, who had seven catches for 76 yards. Louis Brown IV had five grabs for 74 yards. Caden Knighten toted it 10 times for a team-high 35 yards. QB DJ Lagway threw for 256 yards.
The Bears had four sacks and 10 tackles for a loss, a pair of categories BU ranked among the nation's top six in entering the game.
TCU QB Jaden Craig had two TD passes in a 21-for-36 effort through the air, with 294 yards. Jordan Dwyer, whose 67-yard catch on the opening drive of the third quarter, spurred the win for the Frogs, had six catches for 150 yards. Ed Small had seven grabs for 91 yards and a TD.
Baylor returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Lawrence to face Kansas (2-4, 0-3 Big 12).
The Horned Frogs opened the scoring on their second drive of the game, marching 57 yards on nine plays, scoring on a 25-yard TD pass from Jaden Craig to Ed Small on third and 14, taking a 7-0 lead with 6:14 left in the first.
Baylor drove into TCU territory but missed a 47-yard field goal.
After a stop by the Baylor defense, the Bears got on the board via a 39-yard field goal from Rhett Armstrong, which capped a 14-play, 66-yard drive, narrowing the lead to 7-3 with 9:02 left in the first half.
After another defensive stop, the Bears drove 39 yards on 12 plays to hit a 32-yard field goal from Armstrong and narrow the lead to 7-6 with 3:39 left in the first half.
Out of the break, TCU marched 75 yards on three plays, including a 67-yard connection to Jordan Dwyer. Craig found Ka'Morreun Pimpton on an eight-yard TD pass to take a 14-6 lead with 14:16 left in the third quarter.
Following a BU three-and-out, TCU went 73 yards on 14 plays to connect on a 25-yard field goal and push the lead to 17-6 with 6:01 left in the third quarter.
