LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 23 Baylor women's tennis rallied from behind after losing the doubles point to claim the 4-2 win at No. 43 Kansas, on Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
NoBaylor (15-3, 6-2 Big 12 Conference) fell behind early with the doubles point setback but managed to win on court 2, 4, 5 and 6. Kansas (10-8, 4-4 Big 12) used the double point win and a win on court 1.
The Bears return to action on Friday, hosting the first of two on the weekend at the Hurd Tennis Center, welcoming Kansas at 12 p.m. on Friday and Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Kansas jumped out to an early lead with the doubles point, getting a win on court 1, as Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse Van Vuuren posted a 6-0 win over No. 24 Christina Tiglea and Liubov Kostenko, and a court 2 winner from Jasmine Adams and Yerkezhan Arystanbekova over Sierra Berry and Na Dong, 6-3.
In singles, Kansas jumped out to first-set wins on court 1 and 3, but Liubov Kostenko (6-2), Na Dong (6-2), Kennedy Gibbs (6-4) and Nanaka Sato (6-4) each won their first sets.
No. 87 Dong got the Bears on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 winner on court 4.
Kansas answered behind No. 67 Mulville with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court 1 over Tiglea.
Kostenko and Sato each finished off their matches at the same time, as Kostenko posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Maria Titova, and Sato won 6-4, 6-1 on court 6 vs. Anna Putilina, giving the Bears a 3-2 lead.
Gibbs clinched the comeback win with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court 5.
