
No. 20 WT Drops 4-2 Decision to No. 14 Texas Tech in a Pair of Third-Set Thrillers

WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis dropped its first home match of the 2025 dual match season on Sunday against the 14th-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders, 4-2.
Baylor (13-3, 4-2 Big 12) picked up points from singles courts Nos. 2 and 4, but Texas Tech (12-2, 5-1 Big 12) had the doubles point and a trio of singles matches tilt its way to leave Waco with the victory.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor struck first in doubles play with a dominant 6-2 performance from the 89th-ranked Sierra Berry and Na Dong over TTU's Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif, but that was the only Bear victory to come in the doubles point as Texas Tech clinched the first notch of the match with wins at Courts One and Two.
No. 5 Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova defeated No. 15 Cristina Tiglea and Liubov Kostenko, 6-4, while Kate Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy beat Zuzanna Kubacha and Wenfei Yu, 6-3.
Moving on into singles, Texas Tech took the first point at Court One, as Sayfetdinova defeated Tiglea, 6-4, 6-0. The Bears picked it up and got back-to-back points from Courts Two and Four, as Kostenko got back in the singles win column with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hlahola and No. 85 Dong beat Lila in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
The Lady Raiders drew within one point as Court Three went the way of the scarlet and black with a 6-3, 6-2 win for Dmitrichenko over the Bear, Kubacha.
The final two courts pushed to third sets and were back and forth, but Texas Tech was victorious as Sherif pulled out a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win over Yu to clinch and close the match.

Baylor has a prime Big 12 road trip to Ames, Iowa, and Lawrence, Kan., next weekend facing the Cyclones on Friday at 4 p.m. and the Jayhawks on Sunday at noon.
