Bears look to carry the momentum from last week
WACO, Texas – No. 9 Baylor equestrian (1-3, 1-1 Big 12) travels for the fourth time this season to battle No. 5 Oklahoma State (1-1, 0-1 Big 12) this Friday at noon at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center in Stillwater, Okla.
BU picked up its first win of the season after besting Big 12 foe and then-No. 6 Fresno State 12-5 in the green and gold's home opener.
The Bears are looking to capitalize on a strong Jumping Seat performance. Fifth-year senior Lauren Stebbins (Flat) earned her first Most Outstanding Performer honor of her career, while senior Lauren Reid (Fences) earned her fourth MOP in as many meets. Reining senior Kalena Reynolds earned her first MOP of the season and second of her career.
Last week, six Bears earned career highs, with one tying her career high. Baylor earned its first event win of the season in Flat, a 5-0 sweep. The sweep marked BU's first 5-0 sweep since last season in its contest against South Dakota State on March 7. The green and gold also garnered event wins with a 3-0 shutout in Reining and a 4-1 victory in Fences.
The Cowgirls currently lead the all-time series over the Bears, 39-14. The two last faced off last season in the Big 12 Championship Semifinals, where then-No. 5 OSU narrowly grabbed the win, 11-9. In the meet, BU earned event wins in both Flat and Fences, 3-2 each.
Stebbins and Reid scored two points for the Bears in Flat. In Reining, junior Sadie Peters bested Oklahoma State to earn a point for Baylor. In Fences, Reid would earn her second point of the day with senior Emma Covarrubias and junior Juliette Earley also garnering a green and gold point.
After the meet, the Bears will head back to Waco to host SMU to close out the fall slate on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
