Scott scores 54 combined points in WBCA Showcase against No. 19 Iowa and Davidson
IRVING, Texas – Baylor women's basketball redshirt sophomore Taliah Scott has been named to the Big 12's weekly Starting Five as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Scott scored a combined 54 points in Baylor's appearance in the WBCA Showcase, sinking a season-high 32 points against then-No. 19 Iowa in the Bears' first loss of the season before turning around for an overtime victory against Davidson. She scored 22 points in that game with 10 coming from the free-throw line.
The Florida native's 152 points across six games rank fifth nationally in points per game at 25.3 with her 46 made free throws sitting one behind the national leader.
Scott's award is Baylor's 145th all-time weekly award and the program's first Top Performer nod in the conference's new Starting Five era. In her first week of Big 12 play, Scott earned the league's Player of the Week honor after defeating Duke and Lindenwood.
The Big 12 selected TCU's Marta Suarez as Player of the Week, Houston's Jade Jones as Freshman of the Week with Cincinnati's Caliyah DeVillasee and Iowa State's Audi Crooks rounding out the Starting Five's Top Performers with Scott.
After beginning the season with four of six games in a different time zone, Baylor hosts five consecutive games at Foster Pavilion beginning Wednesday afternoon with Louisiana Tech. The game will tip off at 2 p.m. CT and will stream live on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.
