Scott awarded after first career double-double, career high assists and steals
IRVING, Texas – Baylor women's basketball redshirt sophomore Taliah Scott has been named to the Big 12's Starting Five for her third weekly league award of the season, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Scott averaged 21 points a game against Southeastern Louisiana and UTSA, securing her first career double-double with 23 points and a career-high 10 assists on Wednesday evening against the Lady Lions. On the week, she shot 68.2% from the field, made four 3-pointers and added five steals. She also recorded a block in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.
Across Division I, Scott ranks in the top 25 in seven statistical categories: fourth in points, fourth in free throws, fifth in free throw attempts, eighth in points per game, 20th in field-goal attempts, 21st in 3-point attempts and 25th in field goals.
Scott's award is Baylor's 146th all-time weekly honor and the program's second Top Performer nod in the conference's new Starting Five era. In her first week of Big 12 play, Scott earned the league's Player of the Week honor after wins over Duke and Lindenwood, and she was selected to the Starting Five following the WBCA Showcase in Orlando.
The Big 12 named TCU's Olivia Miles the Player of the Week and Cincinnati's Caliyah DeVillasee the Freshman of the Week, while Kansas' S'Mya Nichols and Kansas State's Jordan Speiser joined the league's Starting Five Top Performers alongside Scott.
