Badenhorst moves on to Round of 32 in NCAA Singles Competition
ORLANDO, Fla. – Baylor men's tennis' Devin Badenhorst and Connor Van Schalkwyk competed in the NCAA Individual singles competition on Tuesday at the UTSA National Campus, with Badenhorst moving on to the round of 32.
THE RUNDOWN
No. 9-16-seeded junior Van Schalkwyk was the first Bear to take the court for the day. Van Schalkwyk battled against Texas' Sebastian Eriksson on Court 11. Van Schalkwyk fell to Eriksson 6-3, 6-3. Van Schalkwyk finishes the fall season with a 14-5 record and a career record of 54-22.
On Court Three, No. 5-seeded junior Badenhorst faced California's Tiago Silva. Badenhorst won three games in a row before dropping the fourth one to Silva; however, Badenhorst won the next three out of four games to claim set one 6-2. In the second set, Badenhorst remained dominant, taking the set and match 6-2, 6-1. Badenhorst heads to the round of 32 for the second year in a row.
WHAT'S NEXT
The second day of singles competition and the first day of doubles competition are on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
The doubles pair of Van Schalkwyk and Zsombor Veclz face off against Cornell's Felipe Pinzon and Petar Teodorovic at 5:30 p.m. CT.
In singles, Badenhorst takes on Wake Forest's DK Suresh in a rematch from last year's round of 32 NCAA Individual tournament. Last year, Suresh defeated Badenhorst 6-4, 6-2. The rematch is set for 11:15 p.m. CT.
