Bears look to bounce back prior to hosting ITA National Indoors
WACO, Texas – No. 19 Baylor men's tennis returns to defend its home courts against the No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies Monday night at 6 p.m. CT at the Hawkins indoor Tennis Center.
No. 19 Baylor (4-2) enters the matchup looking to get a win after dropping at No. 5 TCU on Thursday, ending its four-game win streak. In Fort Worth, the Bears did secure a upset through a singles win from No. 106 Zsombor Velcz winning 6-3, 6-2 over TCU's No. 49 Rolland De Ravel.
Texas A&M (6-0) are having an undefeated season and are coming off two straight ranked wins over No. 18 Duke 4-2 and No. 20 Florida State, 4-1.
The Aggies have one ranked singles player of No. 42 Theo Papamalamis based on ITA's most recent rankings. In doubles, a singular duo holds a national ranking in No. 33 Khololwam Montsi and Alexander Frusina.
Since 2000 Baylor leads, 22-11, and looks for a rematch after narrowly losing to the Aggies last spring, 4-3.
BU found themselves with four ranked singles players based on the ITA's updated spring rankings in No. 17 Devin Badenhorst, No. 41 Connor Van Schalkwyk, No. 99 Alexandru Chirita and No. 106 Velcz. In doubles, the duo of Velcz and Van Schalkwyk rank at No. 38.
