Baylor (4-4, 2-3 Big 12 Conference) couldn't overcome the early hole as Cincinnati (7-1, 5-0 Big 12) jumped out big and held on for its seventh straight win. The Bears fought back to get with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter but couldn't get a key defensive stop to have the opportunity to tie the game. UC finished off the win with a pair of fourth-quarter TD drives.
Freshman running back Michael Turner set career highs in carries (14) and yards (90), including a 41-yard scamper in the second half. QB Sawyer Robertson threw for 137 yards and two TDs, and adding a rushing score, throwing for 137 yards on 18-of-26 passing, snapping a streak of 11 consecutive games with 200+ yards passing.
Josh Cameron and Michael Trigg each had TD catches, with Cameron grabbing four balls for 34 yards and Trigg catching three passes for 30 yards.
Defensively, Keaton Thomas had 12 tackles, his fourth double-digit tackle effort of the year and the eighth of his career.
The Bears, who entered the game leading the nation in passing offense, were held to 266 yards of total offense, including 137 passing and 129 rushing UC was limited to 376 yards of offense, rushing for 265 yards. UC QB Brendan Sorsby threw for 111 yards and rushed for 85 yards and a score, one of three Bearcats with a rushing score.
Baylor will return to action for its Homecoming clash vs. UCF on Saturday at McLane Stadium. Game time will be announced on Saturday night.
Cincinnati opened up the game with 24 straight points, including TD drives of 81, 66 and 29 yards, and got a 46-yard field goal to take a commanding lead.
The Bears concluded the first half with a 75-yard TD drive, which featured a Robertson TD pass to Trigg from six-yards out on fourth down. After the two-point conversion failed, the halftime lead sat at 24-6. UC had 194 yards in the first half, including 142 on the ground, while the Bears had 141 yards and 98 passing.
Out of the break, the Bears mounted a 10-play, 80-yard drive that saw Robertson connect with Cameron for a nine-yard scoring strike. After missing the two-point conversion try, BU cut the lead to 24-12 with 10:36 left in the third quarter.
The Cats answered with a 12-play, 57-yard drive that took 5:21 off the clock and ended with a 36-yard field goal to push the lead to 27-12 with 5:15 left in the third.
Baylor marched down the field on a 13-play, 75-yard drive, and converted the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 27-20 with 13:34 left in regulation. The Bears punched it in from one-yard out on a Robertson run, his second of the year.
With the Bears needing a defensive stop to get the ball back to the offense with a chance to tie the game, the Bearcats ripped off a seven-minute TD drive that went 12 plays and 75 yards, ending in a 23-yard run from Sorsby with 6:13 left.
The Bearcats picked up a BU fumble on the ensuing kickoff and marched 17 yards on three plays to push the game out of reach with a 41-20 lead with 4:26 left.
