WACO, Texas -- Baylor softball got its second consecutive shutout win to open the 2023 Getterman Classic and got a home run from Amber Toven, leading the Bears to a 7-0 win over Longwood, on Saturday evening at Getterman Stadium.
Baylor (6-1) posted a shutout in the circle for the second straight game to open the Getterman Classic, just a game removed from the first perfect game in program history, worked by junior Dariana Orme, a 3-0 home-opening win over Stephen F. Austin on Friday evening.
The Bears scored two in the second and used a four-run fifth to distance themselves from the Lancers, adding a run in the sixth. In the circle, two Bears combined for the shutout, allowing only four Longwood singles and working around three walks for the win.
STAT OF THE GAME
Aliyah Binford (2-0) earned the win with five shutout innings to open the game, allowing just two singles and a walk, striking out six. RyLee Crandall worked the final two innings, allowing a pair of knocks with two walks and two strikeouts.
McKenzie Wilson helped lead the Baylor offense with a 3-for-4 game at the top of the lineup, with Toven belting her first home run of the year. Taylor Strain went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
The Bears also got a knock from Josie Bower and runs from Presleigh Pilon, Kaci West, Zadie LaValley and Caroline Rowatt.
Baylor totaled five steals in the win, with Pilon's two steals in the second leading to a run.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor plated a pair in the second inning, getting a leadoff walk from Pilon. Pilon stole second and third and LaValley then kept a rally hot with a two-out walk. Pilon scored following a throwing error and Strain drove home LaValley with a single.
LaValley opened the fifth with a five-pitch walk and pinch runner Rowatt stole second. Strain forced home Rowatt with a single up the middle, motoring to second on the throw to the plate. After a passed ball pushed Strain to third, Wilson singled into the gap in left-centerfield, scoring Strain. Toven then cranked her first homer of the year, a two-run blast down the rightfield line.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Bears added a run, getting a leadoff walk from West, who moved to second on a grounder and scored on a Wilson single into leftfield.

On the win …
"There were several things we did very well that I thought resulted in the win today. First of all, Binford was very efficient in the circle. On offense, Taylor strain and McKenzie Wilson had multiple hits each. I also thought Pilon was a game changer with her effort on the bases taking advantage of their mistakes. We were robbed of quite a few hits as well, the quality at-bats were much higher than the hit total."
WHAT'S NEXT
The Getterman Classic will conclude on Sunday at 12 p.m., as the Bears host No. 1 Oklahoma, the defending NCAA Champion, live on ESPN+.
