BU’s Keefer Notches fourth top-10 finish of the season
BRYAN, Texas– Baylor men's golf finished ninth at the Aggie Invitational on Sunday with a three-round total of 57-over 921 at Traditions Golf Club.
BU climbed as high as seventh in the final round before finishing the weekend with a 19-over 307, which tied for the fourth-best round of the day. The wind proved to be a significant factor on Sunday, where no players broke par, and the stroke average climbed to 78.69, nearly a stroke higher than the second round and over two strokes higher than round one.
Johnny Keefer led the way for Baylor for a fourth time this season, finishing in a tie for 10th place with a three-round total of 9-over 225. The senior started strong, playing the first 16 holes at even par before bogeys on his final two holes saw him finish with a 2-over 74, four shots better than the field average.
Mark Reppe was Baylor's second-highest finisher, notching a tie for 25th with a three-round total of 14-over 230. On Sunday, the senior had an up-and-down front nine with three bogeys, two double bogeys, two pars and two birdies for a 5-over 41 through nine. Three bogeys and five pars on his inward-half added up to an 8-over 80 in the final round.
Luke Dossey had a strong showing this week as an individual, finishing in a tie for 33rd at 17-over par following a 10-over 82 on Sunday. The junior tied for the fifth-best score among individuals this week.
Freshman Drew Wrightson improved his score for a second-straight round, firing a 4-over 76, over two shots better than the field average, to finish in a tie for 43rd. The freshman played his first eight holes at 2-under par and was 1-under through 11 before two double bogeys and a bogey in his final seven holes got him in the house at 4-over.
Luke Morgan shot an 8-over 80 on Sunday to secure a tie for 48th with a 20-over 236.
Zach Heffernan improved on his second-round score by 10 shots with a 5-over 77 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 66th. The freshman played steady on a tough day punctuated by a birdie at the 18th hole to finish almost two shots better than the field average on Sunday.
Host Texas A&M won the tournament with a 23-over 887, beating Arkansas by eight shots. A&M's Walker Lee took home individual medalist honors with an even-par 216 to edge Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg by three shots.
