ARLINGTON, Texas – Falling behind early in Tuesday nights game at Allan Saxe Field, Baylor softball lost to UT Arlington, 12-3, in five innings.
The Bears held the Mavericks scoreless in the first before they put up 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning. A three-run home run started the scoring for UTA, and then timely hits and a couple of errors brought home the rest.
Baylor tried to reset and subbed most of its starters out mid-inning, giving freshman Kaci West, Ashlyn Wachtendorf, Emry McDonough and Caroline Rowatt a chance in the field, while also bringing in Kendall Cross.
Getting a few runs back in the top of the third, Josie Bower hit her first home run of the season, a three-run shot to centerfield.
Another unearned run was plated in the bottom of the third for the Mavericks, giving them the 12-3 advantage.
McDonough and Rowatt each singled in the top of the fifth, but a double play ended the game after five innings by a run rule.
HIGHLIGHTS
Glenn Moore on the game…
"There's no excuse for our performance tonight. We needed to get some work in with pitchers who haven't thrown much. While it showed we still have to have a defense that will back them up and an offense that will cover for them. On a more positive note, we did get great effort play from our bench."
