WACO, Texas – Facing a full count with two outs and runners on second and third in a tie ball game in the bottom of the seventh inning, Alyssa Avalos dropped a single into left field to score Goose McGlaun from third and walk things off as Baylor topped Houston, 2-1.
The Lady Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Lou Gilbert got things started with a bunt single. The sophomore outfielder then advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by Maddison Kettler before she came home when McGlaun launched a double to the warning track in right center field.
Houston nearly tied things up in the third inning as the Cougars had a runner on third with two outs. A wild pitch had the runner sprinting home, but BU catcher Sydney Collazos fielded the ball off the wall and dove to beat the runner to the plate and tag her out to end the frame.
The Cougars evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Bears were unphased heading to the bottom half of the frame.
