Bears beat UTRGV and New Mexico to improve to 2-1 on the season

WACO, Texas – Baylor opened its home season with a bang, taking 5-2 victories over UTRGV and New Mexico Saturday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. Rebounding from a season opening loss at Hawaii Jan. 12, the Bears quickly got back in the win column to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
Liva Kraus, Jessica Hinojosa, Kris Sorokolet and Dominika Sujova all swept their singles matches vs. the Vaqueros and Lobos. Sorokolet and Hinojosa paired up to win each of their matches on the doubles court along with Kraus and Sujova who teamed up for two doubles victories.
Baylor's win over UTRGV gave the Bears victory in their home opener for 17-straight years, all under head coach Joey Scrivano. Baylor is now 29-7 all-time in home openers.

NOTABLES VS. UTRGV
- Jessica Hinojosa and Kris Sorokolet picked up their first dual wins on the doubles court this season.
- Livia Kraus paired up with Dominika Sujova for a doubles win; Kraus' second in dual play this season and Sujova's first.
- Livia Kraus' win on the No. 1 singles court was the 20th dual victory of her career.
- Hinojosa, Sujova and Sorokolet picked up wins on the No. 2-No. 4 courts, respectively. For Sorokolet, it was her 10th career dual match win on the singles court.
- Kraus, Hinojosa, Sorokolet and Sujova all went 2-0 on the day in singles competition with wins over their Lobos opponents.
- Hinojosa and Sorokolet combined to win 6-2 vs. UNM and won both their doubles matches for the day.
- Kraus and Sujova also stayed together in Saturday's second match edging UNM 7-6 (7-6); for Sujova it was her 15th career doubles win in dual match play.
