
Baseball Posts 9-1 Win vs. UT Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas - Baylor baseball notched a 9-1 win over UT Arlington on Tuesday evening at Global Life Park. The Bears (5-5) used a season-high 17 hits and nine runs, along with stellar bullpen work, to defeat the Mavericks (4-6).
Trailing 1-0 after UTA scored in the third inning, BU rallied for a huge, six-run fifth. Josh Bissonette led off with a double and scored on a Cole Haring one-out double. After a two-out error let Shea Langeliers reach, Davis Wendzel doubled to give BU a 2-1 lead. Andy Thomas followed with a two-run single, and after a Nick Loftin single, Richard Cunningham delivered an RBI single. A wild pitch scored Baylor's fifth run of the inning.
In the eighth, Baylor added to the lead with three more runs. Davion Downey led off with a triple, Wendzel walked and Thomas singled to load the bases. Cunningham then roped a two-out, two-run single, and a wild pitch scored another run for a 9-1 lead that stood.
BU reliever Ryan Leckich (1-0) earned the win with 4.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. UTA starter David Moffat (0-3) took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
NOTES
*Baylor is 18-8 in midweek games under third-year head coach Steve Rodriguez with a 12-7 home mark and 6-1 road record.
*All nine Baylor position starters had at least one hit to help BU posted season highs of 17 hits and nine runs.
*Jacob Ashkinos made his first career start on the mound for Baylor and tied a career high with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
*Ryan Leckich tossed a career-high 4.2 innings and picked up his first career win.
*Jimmy Winston threw a career-high one inning in relief.
