THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball lost an 11-1 decision to Lamar on Wednesday evening at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (19-10) fell behind early to the Cardinals (17-13) and were unable to mount a comeback.
Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, Lamar added onto its lead with five runs in the second thanks in part from a grand slam by Reid Russell. The Cardinals tacked on two more in the third and posted a three-run home run in the ninth.
The Bears' lone run came in the third inning after a Tucker Cascadden leadoff double and Matt Menard RBI ground out.
Lamar starter Ryan Johnson (1-0) earned the win, tossing two hitless, scoreless innings with three walks and one strikeout. BU starter Alex Phillips (3-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in 2.1 innings.
