Men's Golf Places Sixth at Big 12 Championship

THE RUNDOWN
HUTCHINSON, Kan. --
Baylor men's golf finished in sixth place at the 2017 Big 12 Championship after shooting 24-over-par 304 in Wednesday's final round at Prairie Dunes Country Club. The Bears finished the 72-hole tournament at 70-over 1190.

No. 4 Baylor (+70) finished 22 strokes behind No. 18 Texas (+48). BU also trailed No. 2 Oklahoma State (+49), No. 43 Kansas (+52), No. 11 Texas Tech (+63) and No. 13 Oklahoma (+65). The Bears earned head-to-head wins over Kansas State (+87), TCU (+95), No. 48 Iowa State (+101) and West Virginia (+131).

Matthew Perrine earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team after finishing tied for sixth place at 14-over-par 294. Perrine and Cooper Dossey both led the team by shooting 4-over 74 in Wednesday's final round, and Garrett May carded a 7-over 77. Dossey and May tied for 16th place at 18-over 298.

Braden Bailey counted the fourth team score on Wednesday with a 9-over 79, and Hunter Shattuck shot 10-over 80. Shattuck finished tied for 34th place at 26-over 306, and Bailey took 36th place at 27-over 307.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor led the 10-team field in par-5 scoring at 13-over 4.68.
- BU tied for fifth in par-4 scoring at 78-over 4.33 and ranked eighth in par-3 scoring at 38-over 3.48.
- Baylor's 40 birdies across four rounds were fourth-most in the field, and the Bears ranked sixth with 197 pars.
- Matthew Perrine earned a spot on the 2017 All-Tournament Team by finishing tied for sixth individually.
- Perrine tied for fourth in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.50, finished eighth in par-4 scoring at 10-over 4.21 and tied for fourth with 44 pars.
- Braden Bailey finished 11th in par-5 scoring at 3-under 4.63.
- Garrett May tied for 11th in the field with nine birdies and led the team and finished tied for 16th in par-3 scoring at 6-over 3.38.
- Cooper Dossey led the team and tied for seventh in the field with 10 birdies.

STAT OF THE DAY
5-over -- Baylor took the turn at 5-over, including Cooper Dossey at 2-under with two birdies and seven pars, but the Bears' four counting scores combined to shoot 19-over on the back-nine.

"It was a tough week," head coach Mike McGraw said. "Obviously, we didn't play well. We will prepare for final exams and then get ready for our Regional. I am excited about the remainder of the postseason."

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor returns home to await the 2017 NCAA Division I Championship selection show, which will be televised on Golf Channel at 11 a.m. CT on May 4. The Bears are expected to extend one of the nation's longest streaks with a 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and head to one of six regional sites - Baton Rouge, La., Murfreesboro, Tenn., West Lafayette, Ind., Stanford, Calif., Austin, Texas or Auburn, Wash.
