Sept. 16, 2016 THE RUNDOWN OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Baylor men's golf is in fifth place after shooting 13-over-par 293 in Friday's first round of play at the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Freshman Cooper Dossey leads the team and is tied for 12th place overall after carding a 1-over-par 71. Senior Hunter Shattuck is tied for 23rd place after shooting 3-over 73, and sophomore Braden Bailey is tied for 29th place at 4-over 74. Sophomore Garrett May had the Bears' final countable score at 5-over 75 and is tied for 40th place, while junior Matthew Perrine shot 12-over 82 to tie for 78th place.
Illinois (-6) leads the field, followed by Texas A&M (E), Oklahoma State (+7), Purdue (+11) and Baylor (+13) rounding out the top five. The Bears are in front of North Carolina (+14), Texas (+14), Florida State (+14), Northwestern (+15), Alabama (+16), Southern California (+16), Indiana (+16), UNLV (+18), Arizona State (+22), and Army (+26).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor made 57 pars, third-most in the 15-team field.
- Baylor is tied for seventh in par-4 scoring at 18-over-par 4.30, tied for eighth in par-5 scoring at even-par 5.00 and tied for 14th in par-3 scoring at 7-over 3.35.
- Cooper Dossey's 15 pars tied for the most in the 78-player field.
- Dossey is tied for fourth in par-4 scoring at even-par 4.00, while Braden Bailey is tied for 14th at 1-over 4.08.
- Garrett May is tied for seventh in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.50.
- Hunter Shattuck leads the team and is tied for 13th overall with three birdies.
- Shattuck was one of eight players to birdie the 417-yard, par-4 fifth hole.
