Aug. 22, 2016 WACO, Texas -- Throughout the summer several Baylor players played in various summer collegiate leagues across the country. The yearly tradition allows players to keep improving their skills in a live-game atmosphere against some of the country's top talent. Below are updates after all players have returned to campus for classes that started Monday.
Shortstop Josh Bissonette helped the Matsu Miners claim the Alaska Baseball League championship with a sweep over the Peninsula Oilers in the World Series. The sophomore batted .238 with one home run and 14 RBI on the season and was named to the ABL mid-season all-star team.
Right-handed pitcher Troy Montemayor played for the Albany Dutchmen in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. Montemayor, recently named first-team All-PGCBL and a mid-season PGBCL all-star choice, had a 1-2 record in 15 appearances with a 0.52 ERA, seven saves and 25 strikeouts.
Outfielder Richard Cunningham wrapped up play in the Coastal Plains League for the Edenton Steamers. Named a mid-season all-star, Cunningham batted .341 with six homers and 25 RBI in 51 games. He finished first in the league in hits with 71.
Outfielder/first baseman Kameron Esthay finished play in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. The junior won the 2016 CCBL Home Run Derby with 11 homers on July 23. Esthay finished with one homer and seven RBI with the Hawks.
Third baseman Steven McLean played in the California Collegiate League with the Menlo Park Legends. In 22 games, McLean batted .298 with three home runs and 13 RBI.
