April 21, 2016 WACO, Texas -- The Baylor women's golf team is headed to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the 2016 Big 12 Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played Friday through Sunday on the par-72, 6,937-yard The Dominion Country Club championship course.

Baylor will look to defend its 2015 Big 12 Championship title, which was won by 12 strokes on the same course a season ago and was the first conference championship in program history.

The Bears enter the Big 12 Championship ranked No. 54 nationally in the latest GolfStat rankings. The ranking makes the Bears the No. 6 seed in the nine-team tournament. Oklahoma State is the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Iowa State, No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 4 Texas and No. 5 TCU, No. 6 Baylor, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 8 Kansas State and No. 9 Kansas.

In the 2015 individuals' competition, Laura Lonardi fell in a two-hole playoff to Oklahoma State's Kenzie Neisen. Both individuals are back to compete this season.

The Bears' lineup features Lonardi, Maria Vesga, Giovana Maymon, Lauren Whyte and Maggie Beth Byers. Lonardi, Maymon and Whyte were all in Baylor's lineup for last year's event, with Lonardi placing second, Maymon taking 21st place and Whyte tying for 28th place.

Tee times for Friday's first round begin at 8 a.m. CT on the first tee. The Bears are paired with players from TCU and Texas. Byers will be the first of the Bears to tee-off, beginning her round at 9 a.m. CT on the first hole. She'll be followed in 10-minute intervals by Whyte, Maymon, Vesga and Lonardi, respectively.
