No. 19 SB Splits Doubleheader at Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. - No. 19 Baylor softball (34-12, 6-4 Big 12) split the second doubleheader of the week, dropping the first game, 3-1, and taking the second, 6-3, against Oklahoma State (22-18, 4-5 Big 12) on Friday evening at Cowgirl Softball Stadium.

In the second game, Heather Stearns (15-6) made her second appearance in the circle, but was chased off after 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, while striking out four.

Kendall Potts (12-1) would enter the game, facing a 3-2 deficit, and pitch a lights-out final 4.0 frames, striking out four and only allowing two hits.

The Baylor bats struck first, with Sarah Smith crushing a no-doubt, two-run home run to left field, giving BU the 2-0 lead.

OSU plated one in the bottom of the second and two in the fourth, taking its first lead of the game, 3-2.

In the top of the fifth, a two-out infield error on OSU brought two runners in, taking the lead back for the Lady Bears at 4-3.

A triple by Sydney Christensen and an RBI single by Jessie Scroggins would push BU up 5-3 in the top of the sixth.

Adding some more insurance and separation, Riley Browder would pinch run for Sarah Smith after a lead-off single, advancing on a stolen base and fly out, and eventually scoring on a passed ball.

With a 6-3 advantage, Potts closed out the game, retiring the side in order.

In the early game, Stearns went the distance, giving up a three-spot in the home half of the third, the only run output of the game for OSU.

For the offense, the lone run came in the top of the fifth, with Lindsey Cargill leading off with a single and scoring on an RBI by Caitlin Charlton.

The Lady Bears would outhit the Cowgirls, 7-4, but stranded nine on the base paths.
