THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball earned a 6-3 comeback win over Lamar on Tuesday evening at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (17-16) overcame a 3-0 deficit to end the Cardinals' (25-8) 15-game winning streak, which was the longest in the nation entering the game.
Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, BU started the comeback with a leadoff single by Josh Bissonette. After a pitching change and sacrifice bunt by Justin Arrington, Steven McLean singled with two outs to plate Bissonette.
The Bears tied the game in the sixth as Aaron Dodson led off with a walk and Matt Menard followed with a double. T.J. Raguse singled to cut the lead to one, and after a pitching change, Bissonette grounded out to score Menard and tie the game, 3-3.
In the seventh, West Tunnell led off with a single. Following a sac bunt by McLean, Darryn Sheppard delivered a two-out RBI single to put the Bears on top, 4-3. After a Dodson single, Menard dropped a two-run double down the right field line for two insurance runs and a 6-3 edge that BU finished with.
BU reliever Kyle Ott (3-2) earned the win with two perfect innings and a strikeout. Troy Montemayor gathered his eighth save as he allowed just a hit in the ninth with one strikeout. Lamar reliever Jimmy Johnson (6-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk in two innings.
