Final Stats

THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas
-- Baylor baseball lost a 12-3 game to Texas State on Tuesday evening at Baylor Ballpark. The Bobcats (9-4) used big innings in the first, eighth and ninth frames to take down the Bears (6-6).

In the first, BU starter Kyle Ott was nearly out of the inning with no harm after a leadoff double and two walks that loaded the bases with two outs. However, Dylan Paul laced a three-run triple to right-center for a 3-0 Texas State lead.

Following a 55-minute lightning delay in the second inning, the Bears responded in the fourth. Darryn Sheppard led off with an HBP and was followed by singles from Kameron Esthay and Aaron Dodson to load the bases with no outs. Unfortunately, Baylor was only able to get one run out of the situation on a Josh Bissonette sacrifice fly.

The Bobcats put the lead back at three runs in the seventh with an RBI single from Luke Sherley, but the Bears cut it back to a 4-2 game in the bottom of the seventh after a two-out double by Steven McLean and RBI single by Ben Carl.

Texas State then put the game away with four runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings with a Sheppard solo homer sandwiched between for BU.

Bobcat starter Brandon Lewis (1-0) earned the win, giving up one run on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Ott (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks in one inning.
