THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball lost an 11-2 game in the rubber match at No. 21 Houston on Sunday afternoon at Schroeder Park. The Bears (6-5) were overpowered by five Cougars (6-5) home runs.
BU found itself behind the eight ball early as a first-inning, one-out walk by starter Nick Lewis led to a two-run homer by Joe Davis. Then another one-out walk was followed by another two-run homer, this time by Clay Casey, to put the Bears down 4-0 in the first inning for the second straight day.
Unfortunately, Baylor was unable to fight back as hard as it did in Saturday's loss. In the fifth, Justin Montemayor hit a two-run homer for a 6-0 edge.
Like Saturday's game, BU's runs came in a single inning. Richard Cunningham led off the sixth with a bunt single, stole second and moved to third on a single by Darryn Sheppard. With Aaron Dodson up, an errant pickoff throw scored Cunningham and moved Sheppard to second. Dodson then drove Sheppard in with a single up the middle to make it a 6-2 deficit, but that was as close as the Bears got.
Houston added four runs in the bottom of the sixth as Davis capped the inning with his second two-run homer of the game. In the eighth, Casey hit a solo homer for his second long ball of the game to make it an 11-2 UH edge.
UH starter Seth Romero (1-0) earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Bubba Maxwell gathered the save by tossing the last three innings. Lewis (0-2) took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits and four walks with one strikeout in five innings.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"We just found a way to beat ourselves ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" I'm not going to take anything away from Houston. They did a great job. We left some pitches up and they put them into the jet stream and the wind took them out. We weren't able to do that, and we had some pitches to work with. Hat's off to them. We did some great things this weekend. I'm proud of our guys for some of the things we did. We're going to be OK. We just have to make sure that when we have situations like this we do a better job of maximizing what we're able to do and hope other people make mistakes." ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor head coach Steve Rodriguez
