THE RUNDOWN
DALLAS, Texas
ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball dropped a 5-3 decision at Dallas Baptist on Friday evening at Horner Ballpark to even the weekend series. The Bears (9-13) led 3-0 until the Patriots (15-7) rallied for a decisive four-run fifth inning to help claim the win.

Baylor jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. Steven McLean roped a one-out single and stole second with two outs. Darryn Sheppard singled to plate McLean and moved to second on the throw home. Aaron Dodson backed it up with another RBI single to give the Bears momentum.

In the fifth, BU added another run that involved McLean again. Josh Bissonette singled with one out and Levi Gilcrease walked with two outs. McLean then roped an RBI double to left for a 3-0 lead.

Then came the fateful bottom half of the fifth as BU starter Daniel Castano was cruising until a one-out single by Jameson Hannah. Camden Duzenack and Garrett Wolforth singled to load the bases, and Connor Hall followed with an RBI single. After back-to-back run-scoring walks by Justin Wall and David Martinelli tied the game, Austin Listi gave DBU the lead on a fielder's choice force out at second base.

In the eighth, the Patriots added an insurance run on a hit, walk, balk and two-out RBI single by Hannah.

Baylor threatened in the ninth, getting one-out singles from Richard Cunningham and T.J. Raguse but no runs came of it.

DBU starter Colin Poche (3-0) earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings. Seth Elledge picked up his sixth save in 1.1 scoreless frames. Castano (2-3) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits and four walks with five strikeouts in 7.2 innings.

Daniel Castano threw the ball really well ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" he just needed to cut down on the walks that gave him trouble in the fifth." ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor Head Coach Steve Rodriguez
