WACO, Texas - No. 20 Baylor softball (20-6) split a doubleheader series with Cleveland State (5-13), winning the first game, 6-3, and dropping the second, 5-4.
In the early game, Kendall Potts (7-0) pitched through 4.2 innings of scoreless play, allowing just three hits and striking out three. Freshman southpaw Abby Langkamp picked up her first collegiate save, closing out the final 2.1 frames to seal the 6-3 victory.
Lindsey Cargill drove in two RBI to pace the offense, with Sarah Smith adding an RBI double.
In the evening's game, Kelsee Selman started in the circle, but couldn't find her control, making it through just 2.0 innings with two runs and four walks, but allowing no hits.
Sarah Beth Toben (1-1) took the loss, giving up the go ahead run and walking three.
For the Baylor offense, a late push with solo home runs from Shelby Friudenberg and Caitlin Charlton couldn't provide the lift the Lady Bears needed, falling 5-4, with both teams trading runs in the final two frames.
