March 13, 2016 WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" The Baylor women's golf team is headed to Tucson, Arizona, to play in the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona. The two-day event will feature two rounds of play Monday and a final round Tuesday, totaling 54 holes played on the par-72, 6,492-yard Sewailo Golf Club course.
Baylor enters the tournament ranked No. 72 nationally in the latest GolfStat rankings. The BU lineup features Laura Lonardi, Giovana Maymon, Maria Vesga, Maggie Beth Byers and Natalia Perez. Mills Chenot will make her collegiate debut playing as an individual. The first round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT Monday, with the second round following completion of the first 18 holes. The Bears are paired with players from Miami, Arizona State and New Mexico.
Lonardi will begin from the ninth tee, Maymon will tee off from No. 10, Vesga will begin on the 11th tee, Byers will start from No. 12 and Perez will tee off on No. 13. Chenot will begin her round at the 18th tee. Tuesday's final round will also be a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Baylor is making its first appearance at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. The event began in 2011, and this season's tournament will be its fourth edition (2011, 2012, 2015, 2016). Arizona won the team title in 2011 and 2012, and USC claimed the title last season.
The 15-team field includes tournament-host No. 12 Arizona, No 14 Arizona State, Baylor, No. 28 Colorado, Kansas, No. 39 Miami, No. 47 Michigan, Northern Arizona, No. 32 New Mexico, New Mexico State, No. 44 Purdue, No. 29 South Carolina, No. 24 UNLV, No. 40 Vanderbilt and Washington State.
