Men's Golf Heads to Los Cabos, Mexico

WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" The Baylor men's golf team is headed to the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, which runs Sunday through Tuesday at Los Cabos in Querencia, Mexico, and is hosted by Houston and Arkansas.

The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the par-72, 6,928-yard championship course, ranked the No. 1 golf course in Mexico by Golfweek magazine. Twelve teams in the 15-team field are ranked among the nation's top 35, including No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 3 Florida State, No. 7 Stanford, No. 11 Georgia, No. 14 California, No. 15 Vanderbilt, No. 18 LSU, No. 28 Arkansas, No. 29 Washington, No. 30 South Florida, No. 31 Houston and No. 34 Baylor. Mississippi, Oregon State and Rice are also competing at the tournament.

The Bears are returning to action following a fourth-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate, where they shot 12-over-par 876. Three Baylor players finished among the top-25 individually, including Hunter Shattuck, who recorded a career-best 10th-place finish at 1-under-par 215.

Baylor's lineup at Querencia features Andreas Gjesteby, Frederik Andersen, Matthew Perrine, Braden Bailey and Hunter Shattuck. Gjesteby has played in the No. 1 spot in all six tournaments this season and Andersen has played No. 2 in five of six events. Perrine is playing as part of the Baylor lineup for a fourth consecutive event, and Shattuck is making his third appearance in the BU lineup and first since Sept. 18-20 at the Fighting Illini Invitational.

The Bears look to improve on last year's score of 14-over-par 866, which placed them in a tie for seventh at Querencia. Kyle Jones finished third in the individual competition with a score of 7-under 206.

Sunday's first round is scheduled for a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start. BU players will be paired with golfers from Wake Forest, LSU and California. Gjesteby will begin on the 10th hole, Andersen will tee off on No. 11, Perrine will begin on No. 12, Bailey will start his round on No. 13 and Shattuck will tee off from the 14th hole.
