WACO, Texas - Baylor's softball team will open the season with the 16th spot in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Preseason Coaches Poll, announced by the association on Tuesday morning.

Earning another place in the coaches poll, BU has now been nationally-ranked for 80-consecutive weeks, dating back to Mar. 1, 2011.

The Big 12 Conference placed two teams in the poll, with Oklahoma taking the No. 9 spot. Additionally, Kansas and Texas both received votes.

Two-time defending national champion, Florida, opens the season as the favorite, with Michigan, LSU, Auburn, and Alabama all receiving first-place votes and rounding out the top five.

Baylor will compete against some of the nation's best, with six teams on the 2016 schedule earning top-25 rankings and five more receiving votes in the preseason poll.

Baylor opens the season with a series against McNeese State on Feb. 12-14 at Getterman Stadium in Waco.
