WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis head coach Joey Scrivano announced the addition of former South Alabama women's tennis player Emily Newton as the program's new volunteer assistant coach Tuesday.

"We are excited to have Emily join the Baylor family," Scrivano said. "She's a special person. Emily has integrity and a passion for the game, so it's a blessing to have her around our student-athletes. Our current athletes will benefit greatly from her experiences. We believe Emily has a very bright future in this profession."

Newton spent the past three seasons playing at South Alabama in Mobile, after playing one year at Auburn. During her career, Newton racked up 64 career singles wins and 70 doubles wins.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Baylor program," Newton said. "To be in a program with such a great tradition is a blessing. I am looking forward to the upcoming season and working with this staff and players."

She graduated in May of 2015 from South Alabama with a degree in public relations. Newton is from Dothan, Ala. and attended Northview High School.
